The delivery economy is booming. Within minutes, orders flow and someone's at your door with the package. But here’s a question that should make us pause: when was the last time a woman delivered to your doorstep?
Despite India’s push towards gender equality in every sector, women’s participation in the delivery fleet is invisibly low. We talk about women in parliament, or as doctors, pilots, CEOs, etc- but what about
women on delivery bikes? The gig economy is creating millions of jobs, yet women remain almost invisible in this space.
What are the reasons? The reasons are obvious. Safety tops every list. Late-night deliveries, unfamiliar neighborhoods, and the unpredictability of the job- these are the main concerns. But apart from them, there’s the infrastructure question: Where do women partners take restroom breaks? What happens when they face harassment? Who do they call when something goes wrong?
But the fact is that delivering food or packages is all about mobility, reliability and earning a livelihood. And they do not demand any particular gender.
Potafo’s Different Approach Potafo isn't just opening doors, we are actively rebuilding a delivery ecosystem where women can easily thrive.
Our women partners aren't just numbers on a report. They are actually changing the narrative, proving that with the right support system, any barrier can be dismantled.
We're talking to women partners and working on practical solutions. Building safety protocols that actually work, flexible schedules that respect personal commitments, and a support network that listens.
The Future AheadChange doesn't happen overnight, but it starts with intention. The industry has moved from 0.5% to slightly better numbers, but we are still far from where we should be. Every woman who
joins Potafo's delivery fleet is a statement, who continuously says that “This space is mine too”
There's a long road ahead. But Potafo is committed to this journey. If you're a woman considering this opportunity, or you know someone who might be, we're here. Not with empty promises, but with genuine commitment to making this work together. The delivery revolution is happening. It’s time women were fully part of it.
We continue to take feedback from our delivery partners and create necessary changes which in turn make Potafo a better and supportive workplace. If you have any suggestions or insights, please reach out to us at care@potafo.in
